The parents who have hyperactive children often worry for the future of this last. But they should be also heedful on their own couple:  they have two times more of risks to divorce that the other! to arrive from it to this conclusion, some American scientists examined the history of 282 families that had hyperactive children become big (of 11 to 28 years). And they noted that the rate of divorce before the child reached her 8 years was of 23% in these homes. Whereas in a population corresponding to the same profile, the rate of separation is of less 13%.

For the researchers, the hyperactive children are not directly responsible for the divorce of the parents. But the children are going to serve developers to the problems in the couple and to exacerbate them. To raise a child with this trouble is going to ask indeed for more efforts and sacrifices the parents, risking to drag more crises in case of relational problem.

Other hypothesis emitted by the scientists to explain this phenomenon:  the problems of hyperactivity are often hereditary. If one of the parents endures himself of hyperactivity, it can explain that he feels more difficulties in the couple, dragging more of separation, regardless of the child's presence, fatally.

To note:  the scientists note that the limit of the child's 8 years seems essential. If the parents held until there without divorcing, it is that the couple is strong, and they have as many risks as the general population then statistically to separate.

For the scientists, this survey underlines the difficulty to raise a hyperactive child. At the time of the diagnosis, it would be thus useful to propose to the parents a psychological support.
