Retirement homes, residences services, homes lodgings... a big diversity of structures that welcomes the aged people exists. A small guide to read to choose in all knowledge of reason.

 The diversity of the establishments of welcome of the aged people is bound to the diversity of the needs. Of the retired young person wishing to live in perfect autonomy to the completely dependent person, it is a whole range of structures that proposes some services more or less extended, more or less dear, more or less médicalisés,... and more or less serious. He exists in France close to 8000 establishments of long stays. The choice is often difficult especially since the places are expensive. The waiting lists are often impressive. The very long admission delay. Is better not to act in the emergency to have the choice truly.

These establishments are the most numerous. They depend on the public sector or the private sector. They are managed either by hospitals, either by townships, either by associations or organisms to social character (mutual, cases of retirement...) either by private operators. The retirement homes welcome valid or semi-valid people. They offer collective services (restoration, laundry,...) and a medical framing. They can welcome people to the modest income, to the title of the social help. People are lodged in individual room or 2 or 3 beds.

The retirement homes with "medical cure section" permit to do some care there, for the dependent aged people or people requiring a maintenance treatment and a medical surveillance.

Intermediate formula between the domicile and the retirement home, these establishments allow the person aged to benefit from the biggest possible autonomy. She/it has here a real private life. She resides in a particular apartment, while having optional collective services (restoration, laundry, leisures, care,...) The residents can be either tenants are owners of their apartment. In addition to their lodging, they pay every month of the loads understanding the working of the services notably. Attention:  this type of establishment doesn't have still the infrastructure, or even the expertise to integrate medical sections worthy of this appellation within. In case of weak resources, the person can be taken in charge by the social help if the home received of the department empowerment to the social help.

Organized of way similar to the homes lodgings, but often more chic, these establishments often constitute a formula of welcome intended to people to the elevated and autonomous resources. The aged person has a real individual apartment (capable to reach three or four pieces) accompanied of a service of medical surveillance and collective services. The benefits vary according to the type of residence. In the villages retirements, the person is lodged in individual pavilions implanted in farming zone.

Often integrated within a hospital or a near annex, these establishments (about one thousand in France) welcome people requiring important and constant medical care. They are financed directly by the health insurance. But attention:  only the medical expenses are taken in charge and no the expenses of lodging. The residences médicalisées, being a matter for the private sector, also exists sometimes specialized in the hold in charge of the aged people enduring intellectual deterioration.
