The new international pole of research "Biology of the development and cancer" of the institute Curie allows him to explore the ties better between biology, genetic of the development and medicine, for tomorrow to finalize of the innovating therapies facing this curse. Inaugurated October 13 by Valérie Pécresse, Minister of the higher education and Research, this new laboratory is dedicated to research on the biology of the development of the embryo and the cancer.
A ten of teams are going to work on the genes of the development and the survey of construction of an embryo while searching for the common points existing with the formation of a tumor. The goal: to understand how the cellular machinery goes out of order at the time of a cancer and put to the point of the innovating therapeutic strategies.
The Pr Daniel Louvard, Director of the Center of Research of the institute Curie and director of research in the CNRS, explain: "The development of a cell-egg, having the properties of an original cell, is a "picture-mirror" of the tumorous transformation, a mirror certainly somewhat distorting, but that permits to understand better how are born the cancers."
The child's cancers should be the first recipients of the closeness between medicine and biology of the development.
