A holiday longer motherhood?

Wednesday September 03, 2008 In France, the holiday Motherhood could see itself stretched out. The European Commission examines a project of law that would pass the minimum length of 14 to 18 weeks. In France, the legal length is already of 16 weeks. The new law, if she is adopted, could increase thus of two weeks the legal holiday in the hexagon. To note, it is more or less about an European harmonization:  many countries are already to 18 weeks (Portugal, England, Greece...). Some as the Italian are even 20 weeks and the Danes' to 28!

Other advantage foreseen by this European law project:  an indemnification corresponding to the salary of before holiday, and this counterpart the whole length of the stop. In France, it won't necessarily change much:  the indemnities are calculated on the basis of the net income of the future mom (but they are however plafonnées). In other European countries, the indemnity is sometimes weaker (60% of the salary for example).

In any case, it will be necessary to wait shortly before to see this project materializing:  the commission owes finaliser the text, then to submit it at the different countries...
