The fibromas, these tumors of the uterine muscle reach a woman on two after 40 years. But no panic, if this pathology is frequent, it is the most often benign. All fibromas don't require a treatment. If it has the size of a small ball the most often, some can reach the size of a grapefruit! This benign tumor develops itself from the muscle, that surrounds the uterine cavity. This mass more or less rounded can measure several centimeters and weigh several kilograms! This tumor can appear to different places of the uterus. According to its localization, one distinguishes three types of fibromas: - The fibroma under serous situated close to the external surface of the uterus, that develops himself in the abdominal cavity and can compress the neighboring organs, the bladder or the digestive tube painfully;
- The interstitial fibroma that develops himself in the thickness of the uterine partition;
- The fibroma under mucous that develops himself in the uterine cavity.
Of unknown origin, the fibromas are however hormono-dependent and decrease, disappear or even to the menopause (bound to an excess of estrogènes, the menopause deprives them of food, they stop enlarging and calcify). Besides, one noted that a domestic land exists and that the black women are especially touched, even to a precocious age. All don't require a treatmentOften asymptomatique, the fibroma doesn't degenerate in cancer and a simple surveillance is sufficient the most often. Of the prolonged and abundant rules, of the sensations of heaviness to the level of the pelvis, an increase of the size of the abdomen, the constipations and frequent desires to urinate can be signs annonciateurs but most of the time no symptom permits to guess the existence of it. So in spite of its frequency, the fibroma is well often casually discovered at the time of a gynecological exam or a pelvic scan. A woman out of two would be bearer of a fibroma after 40 years. However, some fibromas can entail some bleedings, of the pelvic pains and therefore to require a treatment. Different therapeutic options are henceforth at the disposal of the physicians and patients: the hormonal treatment, the surgical treatment and recently the arterial embolisation. Each of these techniques includes the advantages and inconveniences that it will agree to take counts some before opting for one them. The women must fully be associated to therapeutic choices that concern them to the first chief. 2010-10-27
